The Greater Good

When we look at political compromise (a dirty word in today’s politics), the democratic primary was a wonderful case in point. So, instead of honorably conceding defeat earlier and getting on with helping a Democrat win the presidency, Senator Clinton pretended that she could still be victorious to the bitter end, and in the process, amplified racism through innuendo as well as providing Republicans talking points to be used in the Presidential race such as he is not ready to be President, he is too inexperienced, when that midnight call comes through, who do you want on the other end of the line? Or, Senator McCain and I have the experience… It did not stop there. This was a time for hardball politics. The fall campaign season will go even further will hatred and lies. They are the best of friends today especially after Senator Obama agreed to pay 10 million of her campaign debt. Where is the greater good?

When she attacked Reverend Wright, there was no insinuation used in this statement, “I would have left my minister”, but I will never leave my husband no matter how many women he seeks solace in outside our marriage; he is my ticket to nirvana. I sure hope all the women who support me have husbands that have sex with other women this is my ticket to the presidency. Thank god women are living with men that can’t keep it in their pants when a young intern targets them. Senator Obama never used any of this information. He took the high road on these issues. Will he be swift boated with lies and fabrications? Will McCain use his 527 money and surrogates to perpetuate lies and distortions and will the corporate media keep giving Senator flip flop McCain a pass as long as they get invited to his barbeques for face time? For McCain he only has to look for protection from his attack dog Bill O. Where is the greater good?

Bill O is a man who seems befuddled and flabbergasted by Reverend Wright. Except he has his own skeletons in the closet. Why did FOX News make a gigantic deal out of Monica and consensual sex? Political expedience? They never said one word when they had their own pervert on staff that committed a far more heinous act by sexually harassing a subordinate? In their defense, O’Reilly only tried to have phone sex with his intern, and we’ll never know if he was in his office as we learned about the President, but that is no big deal at FOX News where the truth must be vetted by Karl Rove and Dick Morris and his prostitutes. FOX News the home of family values. Where is the greater good?

In the right-wing media world, if the sex is between a television commentator and an intern or a political pundit and a prostitute who are talking to the president, then, there is no news to report. The pubic that watches these hacks gets to pretend that nothing ever happened, and said commentators gets to act as if they are as chaste as the driven snow. This plan of avoidance can only be used by right-wing sexual deviants or non-prosecuted right-wing drug offenders, however, if a man is labeled as liberal and running for public office, an elected democrat, or a black man that is all the above and goes to church regularly which none of the other contestants may claim, he must be constantly attacked for imagined wrongs by drug abusers and sexual deviants. Where is the greater good?

Never, never say these things. Even Marv Albert got to bite a woman’s back, who was not his wife, and got his job back, but if a black politician who has a new vision of America goes to church with a man who has seen injustice, he has to throw him aside and pretend that America was and is not racist. Maybe these commentators should read, Worst then Slavery or Why a Caged Bird Sings to understand a minute amount of the black experience in America. What am I thinking? There is no need to cover this topic because racism has vanished from America as reported by FOX News. Of course no one in the commercial media will touch such a statement because it represents the ugly truth that America pretends does not exist especially those pundits on the right who in their white skin pretend that there has never been racial tension in this country since they cannot see it from the patio of the nineteen hole of their country club or maybe it was the white washed squash courts that blurred their vision. Who can say? Not them. Where is the greater good?

It must be nice to see happy white faces every where you walk and think that the world is a glorious candy mountain ripe for the picking. Who are these people that cannot, will not, or make up their own truth? Why, they are the phonies that have no empathy for humanity and see themselves as flawless or that their flaws are so minimal that others cannot understand the complexities or nuances that make them so special, and it is this uniqueness that leads them to sell their souls for a pound of flesh, ask John McCain about this as he courts misogynistic ministers that sell hate and distrust as a means of controlling their flock. Where is the greater good?

Back to the central issue: why can no one talk about Senator McCain’s service record? He stood by as John Kerry’s was savaged by lies and deceits. He knew the truth and stood on the sideline as a good soldier is taught to do. Let me say it more bluntly then General Wesley Clark stated it: being a fighter bomb pilot who was shot down and held as a prisoner of war gives you no great insight into being president. It may make him a hero, and it sure as hell makes him someone who overcame what many of us may not have been able to do. But on the other hand, why has he hired one of the liars that savaged Kerry? How does this make him ready to be president, unless it illustrates how he will try to run the government? Why does he get to keep secrets about his life? Why is he seen as the family values candidate when he divorced his first wife because of her disfigurement? Why do we never see his children campaigning with him? They are voting for Senator Obama. I guess there is a different set of rules for this man and not for Senator Obama. Where is the greater good?

Back to Senator Clinton who did take the high road once she stopped campaigning for the presidency. Will she do everything in her power to help get Senator Obama elected president? Will she turn it around and take the lead in the Senate and use her political and personal skills to bring about change that the rest of the democrats are unable or unwilling to commit to? Where is the greater good?
The questions that begs to be asked, “Who is driving the bus in the Senate or the House of Representative”? Why are Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi who refuse to take on the President so afraid of the Republicans? They are the ones that stood by as a former president was impeached for having consensual sex, but refuse to impeach a sitting president that has at the very least lied to his country, and is directly responsible for over 4,000 American deaths not to say the 100,000 plus dead Iraqis; moreover, he or his office outed an undercover CIA agent, and illegally spied on innocent Americans by strong arming the telecoms who were more than willing to go along. Where is the greater good?

Wait, it gets better I am so glad that the Senate and House Democrats feel the need to protect the freedoms that Americans have enjoyed. They recently passed a bill to protect the telecoms from civil prosecutions when they illegally stepped on the 4th amendment, but there was a compromise in that the FISA Court orders are back in play. Will they go after criminal prosecution of said companies or members of the executive branch? If the past is an indicator of the future, I doubt it. Richard Nixon must be pissed that the Democrats were not so timid in his day. Where is the greater good?

The greater good can be found in the Veterans bill. Having a son that is a 1st lieutenant in the Army. I am glad that this measure passed for it represents the good that this country holds and cherishes. It rewards those that have sacrificed themselves for the greater good. My son joined because of his belief in the values of this country, and the foundation that make them possible: The Constitution. The Constitution is the greater good, and whenever a politician abuses that document they need to be held accountable or all the service personnel who have died in all our military actions have died for no reason.
