Four More Years of Big Oil?

With Alaska Governor Sarah Palin added to the Republican ticket one may justifiably assume that there will be more pressure to drill for oil in ANWR (Arctic National Wildlife Refuge) despite the fact that oil companies are already sitting on 68 million acres of leases that they aren’t even drilling. The graphic at the top of the page is based on 2008 data from the Interior Department’s Minerals Management Service and Bureau of Land Management records.

Art McEldowney sent me the map with this note:

US Oil Exports Hit Record Pace. That's Right, Exports

Who knew that the US is currently exporting 1.8 million barrels of oil a day?

To make sure everybody does, Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, sent a public letter to President Bush, asking him to "keep our oil at home."

The letter didn't specify how, but it didn't miss the opportunity to take a shot at the GOP plan to open up protected offshore waters to oil drilling.

The McCain Dipstick: How Deep Is Your Oil Money?

Since the Presidential campaign has taken on an automotive theme -- what with the introduction of the Obama tire gauge -- we thought it only fair to come up with a Republican counterpart: the McCain Dipstick.

Just insert it into the presumptive nominee's campaign coffers, wipe it off, and see how much oil money is there!

Chevron Relying on Wind Power to Run Offshore Oil Rigs

Take a look at offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and you'll see a curious sight: wind turbines on the platforms, hundreds of them. The one in the picture is on a Chevron rig.

Chevron and other oil companies are using the power from the micro-generating turbines to run the nerve center of oil rig operations - called SCADA in industry jargon. Oil rig SCADA systems used to run off of inefficient thermal electric generators, which burned oil and then converted the heat to electricity. No more.

An Open Letter To The Truckers Of America

As a nation, we are all being gutted by high fuel prices, food costs that are rising so rapidly that the "average American" is experiencing difficulty in keeping food on the table for their families - and the sub-prime crisis and subsequent collapse of several corporations that were once household names is rapidly causing the collapse of our entire economy. Progressive and Liberal writers, now often joined by Republicans as well, have been attempting to organize the people to participate in a general strike - but as usual, the mainstream news media refuses to tell America the truth - and the people remain unaware that the worst is yet to come, and that as a nation, the Bush administration is playing God with all of our lives... "The Decider" has ignored the majority of the people and has demonstrated, time and time again, that the average American is meaningless in the scheme of his quest to dominate and enslave America, breaking us down to the point that people find it hard to attend peaceful protests because they can't afford the gas to travel where they are needed. I noted in an article that appeared on RAW Story that many truckers in South Dakota couldn't attend a planned protest because they couldn't afford the fuel - which is obviously the intent of destroying the American economy. Destitute people cannot risk a day or a few hours of their wages as they live from check to check - and its been planned that way as the government uses food and fuel as a weapon against the American people!

Finally, Justice in the Exxon Valdez Disaster?

Cross-posted @ Progressive Historians and My Left Wing

If someone would have asked me back in March 1989 if the Supreme Court of the United States would end up deciding the case against the largest oil company in the world -- responsible for the largest oil spill in world history - nearly two-decades later; I would have answered that, ostensibly, the prima fascia evidence of the culpability of Exxon-Mobil was not only overwhelming but also incontrovertible.

If Any Good Can Come From High Gas Prices, Here's One You Might Not Think Of

To paraphrase William Burroughs, gas price surges can be like one of those moments where everyone sees what's on the end of every fork. High gas prices force us to make decisions based on what matters most, and force us to be cleverer, and more efficient.

Bush's Irreverence for the Environment is Spreading

Given the dire state of our environment these days, writing about it can be a frustrating endeavor to say the least. But knowing that the industrial-strength deforestation-taking place in South America is hastening our planet’s demise -- makes writing about it essential -- if we’re ever to stop it or at least slow it down.

Big Oil Marries DirecTV - ( for a Hope Chest)

Do you have DirecTV?
I just have to rant tonight - after watching all the "Post Debate" Coverage I could handle...

My response to Big Oil's BIG GUNS

In order to get the full picture you will have to click on the links for some background.

Hee hee

Big Oil sent out their big guns after little old me just because I tried to help Wise County residents understand the truth about Groundwater Conservation Districts--a truth Big Oil does not want us to know.

Where is the Outrage?

I am very fortunate in that I have a very short commute to work. In fact truth be told I probably should ride a bicycle on warm, clear days, but that is another story. Because of my short commute I don't purchase gasoline for my car very often, once every three weeks or so. This makes me pretty sensitive to significant changes in the price of gas.
